5 Great Movies set in Madrid!

1.   Abre los ojos is about a very handsome man who finds the love of his life, but suffers an accident and needs to have his face rebuilt by surgery after it is severely disfigured. The Madrileñan actress Penelope Cruz and Eduardo Noriega play the lead roles in this movie set in Madrid. Later an english remake of this movie, called Vanilla sky, was made and Penelope Cruz starred alongside Tom Cruise.


2.   Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, that in its native tongue goes by the name of: Mujeres al borde de un ataque nervioso, is a movie directed by Pedro Almodovár. This film is great for someone in search of a dark comedy, but it will also please the ones in search of eye candy, as a young Antonio Banderas has a leading role.


3.   La Comunidad is a black comedy featuring actress Carmen Maura who plays a real estate agent who discovers a fortune in the apartment of a dead man. Unfortunately, a group of neighbors have been waiting for the man to die so that they can seize the money for themselves. This movie, which takes place in Madrid, won three Goya Awards.


4.   El día de las Bestía is a funny horror movie about a basque priest who discovers that the anti-christ will be born on Christmas day in Madrid. Most of the scenes takes place in the centre of the city.


 5.    Martín(hache) is a movie about an Argentinian movie director who hates his country, and has therefore fled to Madrid, Spain and lived there for over 20 years.  Unfortunately he has to face his past when his son comes to Madrid to visit.
