Babylon Idiomas Newsletter

Hola Babylonian,

One of the most popular new year's resolutions is to work on self improvement. And what better way to improve yourself then learning a new language?

Did you know that Spanish is spoken by more than 300 million people and ranks after Mandarin, English and Hindi as the 4th most spoken language in the world?

More than 150.000 students come to Spain each year to learn Spanish. If you are 18 years or older and want to study in a friendly and professional environment, then Babylon Idiomas is for you.

If you are already planning to come and study Spanish with us, take advantage of our Advance Booking Discounts that can give you as much as a 10% discount on your investment if you book more than 3 months in advance.

Even better, book before the 31st of January and you'll pay no enrolment fee.

Three Great Places to Visit Cerveceria Catalana

Barcelona is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. It has history, culture, the sea and a lot of pride. Here are three places to explore on your next visit:

Cerveceria Catalana (photo): Yes, it is touristy but it is worth it. Great tapas, very decent prices and friendly staff. They do not take reservations so expect to wait for a little while until you are seated. Alternatively, you can sit at the bar and order there. Address: calle Mallorca 236

CaixaForum: One of the wealthy banks of Catalonia sponsors a great museum where you can find contemporary expositions year round...for free :) Address: Av. Marquès de Comillas, 6-8, Website

Hook Bar: As in Captain Hook, the pirate. In this bar you'll find an amazing collection of quirky things, all connected to nautical themes as well as staff dressed up as pirates. Small tables and jazzy music make this a perfect venue for a drink before or after a big night out. Address: Calle Ample 35

And the winner is...

Kristel Vereecken wins first prize prize

Thank you very much for sending your film ideas to Marco. He read them with much delight and after much deliberation, the winner of a 2 week free Spanish course in Barcelona is Kristel Vereecken: congratulations!

We'd also like to give a special mention to Wayne Hincks, Martin Moritz, Drazana Janic and Boniface Nzenwate for their contributions.

How long does it take to learn Spanish?

One week is good...36 weeks is better :) Question

Assuming you are an absolute beginner, how long does it take until you can communicate? Babylon Idiomas has developed its own methodology called Immersive Language Acquisition™ whereby from the first day in school, you will be able to speak and understand Spanish.

Of course, you will not be able to write a Nobel prize winning novel on your first day but you'll be pleasantly suprised how fast you'll learn.

To give some idea of the time it takes to reach a certain level:

  • Beginner: 4 weeks

  • Intermediate: 4 - 6 weeks

  • Advanced: 4 - 6 weeks

  • Proficiency: up to 20 weeks

During the first three broad levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), you will learn all the main building blocks of the Spanish language and a very practical vocabulary that will enable you to actively converse in Spanish. For this reason, we advice students who want to have a good working knowledge of Spanish to study for at least 12 weeks.

With Babylon Idiomas, you can choose your own course duration and we'll take as good care of a student who comes for a week as of our more "resident" students who stay for almost a year :)
