Hola Babylonian,
It feels like yesterday but Babylon Idiomas started
four years ago in Barcelona. Our concept of high
quality Spanish courses for adults with a very
personal touch has been such a success that we hope
to welcome more than 1500 very satisfied students to
our schools this year!
To celebrate this achievement, we invite you to
participate in our November contest and win a two
week Spanish course in Barcelona.

Profile of a great place to learn Spanish
Barcelona is sometimes called the pearl of the
Mediterranean and it is not difficult to see why.
Its rich history, splendid architecture and
excellent scenery and nightlife make it a must-visit.
Our school is located in the very heart of the city
at walking distance from famous landmarks such as
the Paseo de Gracia and Plaza Cataluña. The building
itself is historic and made all the more special
with one of the few remaining large outside terraces
where students can soak up the sun and mingle.
All the class rooms are airconditioned and furnished
with ergonomic chairs and comfortable furniture. The
school comprises two floors and we will shortly
inaugurate our own "film room" where students can
enjoy great Spanish films (with subtitles). Popcorn
is optional.
Our school manager Manuela
will be delighted to help you with any questions
you may have and we look forward to welcoming you
soon to our school in Barcelona!

Help Marco: write a short film story
Our head of studies ("jefe de estudios") in
Barcelona is called Marco and he is an expert on
Spanish films. Not only does he know a lot about
Spanish films...he even makes short films himself.
To help Marco with ideas, we'd like to ask you to
write a proposal for a film which must have the word
"Barcelona" in the title. Your film idea must not be
more than 500 words (approximately a page). Please
email this to us before 30th of November 2006. You
can write in English, German, Dutch, Italian,
Japanese, French or Spanish of course!
The winner will be chosen by our expert jury and the
prize is a two week Spanish course in Barcelona
including accommodation.

A guide to finding your way in a Spanish building.
Not speaking a language is one thing, not knowing
local customs is quite another. You'll not be the
first one (nor the last) who gets confused when
finding your way in a Spanish building. As always,
we're here to help you:
The ground floor is called "planta bajo" [indicated
as PB in the lift]. Very often, the floor above is
called "Entresuelo" [Entre] and above that one
you'll find the "Principal" [Pral]. In other words,
very often the 1st floor is already three floors up!
The top floor is normally called "Ático" [At] and if
an extra top floor was constructed afterwards, this
is called the "Sobre ático".
Most floors have different offices or homes and are
numbered: 1st door, 2nd door etc. or in Spanish: 1ª,
2ª. So if you see an address that says: Calle Juan
12, entre, 2ª you now know where to go!
