Babylon Idiomas Newsletter

Information about Spanish Courses

Hola Babylonian,

Welcome to our March Newsletter. We received a lot of positive comments about our new format: thank you!

One of the best places to study Spanish in Spain in Spring time is Sevilla. Our school manager Amy explains a little bit about the biggest event that takes place there in April: "la Feria de Abril".

Babylon Idiomas receives a lot of students who take a gap year in their career or studies. We ask Sven in Barcelona how he is liking the experience so far.

If you like to explore Latin America, then you may want to consider surfing in Costa Rica. We are also very proud that our Spanish course in Buenos Aires has been selected as one of the best language courses by The Guardian newspaper.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to make your Spanish course a huge success: we are here to help.

Sevilla - La Feria de Abril

The #1 festival of the year Feria

Probably the most exciting event on Seville's calendar is the Feria de Abril. This week long festival or party officially begins (this year) on Monday 24th of April at midnight. An impressive castle like entrance makes way for a city of marquees (casetas) which is set up every year just for the event and the streets are lit up with coloured paper lanterns to mark the official beginning of the Feria.

Feria by day consists of the streets complete with horse drawn carriages, women and little girls dressed in the most colourful and spectacular flamenco dresses and men dressed in traditional horse riding suits or just smartly dressed in general. The tradition is to meet at the Feria with friends and invite them to your private caseta to drink sherry wine (manzanilla) and ham (jamón), to dance the traditional dance sevillanas and then move on to the next friend's caseta and do the same over again.

During the Feria, people are very generous and will offer you drinks and food all day and night, even if they have only just met you. The locals kind of use the Feria as an opportunity to show off their fantastic city and festival. Music and dancing can be heard and seen both inside the casetas and outside in the streets, and it is almost impossible to not get taken in by this fantastic event. Feria is a time to see Seville and the locals at their best. Don't miss it :)

My Gap Year in Barcelona

I will never regret it! Sven

My name is Sven, I'm 25 years old and I'm from Germany. Right now I live in Barcelona for one year to study Spanish. I have been here for two month and it has been an amazing experience, it's probably going to change my whole life.

I'm studying at the language school of Babylon Idiomas, which for me is a really great school. The groups are really small, like maximum 8 personas which allows you to learn really fast.

When I'm not at school I'm working a little bit for my German company. I'm a computer programmer, which makes it possible to work over the internet. Therefore I learn a new language, earn some money and enjoy this great Metropolis at the same time.

Barcelona for me was the one and only choice in the whole of Spain. The combination of mega city, wonderful beaches, Mediterranean ambiance and really nice climate is just unique for Barcelona.

The city itself has really beautiful places like Parc Guell, Sagrada Familia or Plaza España. Besides, there is this really crazy nightlife here. They really have thousands of bars, clubs and restaurants. There are so many opportunities that you just can't get tired of going out:-) That's perfect because I just love to "salir de noche".

What else can I say? For me and for this year it was the best choice I could ever have made and I already know after two month that I will never regret it!

Surfing in Costa Rica

Learning Spanish has never been so much fun Surf

Playa Dominical is probably Costa Rica's most famous surfing ground. It's less isolated and offers easy access to the surrounding national parks and to the nation's capital, San José. The area is famed for its "surf camps" where surfing, accommodation, food and activities are all included in the package. It is a great way for beginners to get into the sport and even experienced surfers may learn a thing or two from the local instructors.

The region has begun to develop but by no means to the extent that we are used to in big European resorts, eco-lodges are the typical accommodation here and the focus is on preserving an area of immense natural beauty. Whether surfing Dominical's famous breaks or just chilling on the beach you'll find the area is as close to paradise as you're likely to get in Costa Rica.

So if you are interested in learning Spanish in the morning and surfing the Pacific waves in the afternoon, Playa Dominical is for you.

Our team on the ground will be delighted to help you enrol with a local surf school and get going.

We are the champions!

...at least according to The Guardian newspaper The Guardian

The Guardian Newspaper has selected Babylon Idiomas Spanish courses in Buenos Aires as one of the best language courses.

It wrote: "Spend two weeks learning Spanish in vibrant and intoxicating Buenos Aires, Argentina, and spice it up by combining it with tango lessons. For some weekend diversion, mildly endanger your safety with a Sunday football match."

Buenos Aires is becoming more popular every year as more and more students discover this wonderful city. Local prices are still very low and there are plenty of flights to be found that do not cost a fortune. Why wait?
